hair dye? new color or simply re-emphasizing?

also for zarbet, but for everyone, really: are you familiar with evp (electronic voice phenomena)? listening to tape hiss to hear transmissions from ghosts? (here's the skeptic's dictionary take on evp.)

anyway, our friend spence has a new band called deathbeam, for which he sings and plays guitar. all of his lyrics for the new band are taken directly from evp transcriptions. HA! excellent.

am sitting here waiting for my hair dye to take, so here's some random bits:

Jim Hightower is planning a Chautauqua for progressives. Yeah! Something to combat politics of late. And here's an awesome site for pinko media whores.

Butt, speaking of politician a-holes, today while at work I was notified that The A**hole Monologues now has a website...I saw the show a few months ago, apprently they were so popular that they're expanding. It's like the Vagina Monologues in that it's both funny and serious. (speaking of which, the best VM media headline listed on their press page is 'Vagina' has hope, humor...well hell, that would describe my vagina!) (and speaking of funny headlines, my fave today was the Oakland Tribune's Marin Taliban Backs Terrorists. The Marin Taliban? Is that some association in the North Bay, like the Shriners? Or more like a homegrown militia?)

This morning Sarah & Vinnie discussed masturbation with Sadie Allison. A woman phoned in to talk about her new "techno vibe," a sex toy that pulses in various beats, like those at a rave. Zarbet, are you paying attention?

to back up the boot's Rhythm Chicken promo - this past thanksgiving i got to hear Alex and his Green Bay friends get really excited about the RC for a good twenty minutes, and let me tell you, he sounds as if beyond just a chicken - i can't explain it like they did (not being from the under-talked of, interesting city of Green Bay), but i can account for their vigor and true excitement just knowing that this chicken/man existed in their hood and that they might encounter him at any number of GB events. love*e

a cousin of friend-promotion: local promotion. i proudly present my favorite visual artist in cincinnati, charlie harper. doug and kurt have a rad harper print hanging in the front room of their house. i remember pete heckscher's dad taking me to a signing when i was ten or so, where i got an autographed harper print (probably amid the heaps of crap in my mom's house somewhere).

i'm going to treat myself to his book one of these days.

all of his paintings illuminate the symmetries and geometries of nature. a little kandinsky, a little escher, a little audubon. genius stuff -- the one doug has involves ladybugs in a diamond formation.

my second-favorite visual artist in cincinnati: david hug (here's the full exhibition page).

MORE friend-promotion: Consider the Rhythm Chicken: a six-foot tall man from Green Bay, Wisconsin; a guy who really does understand and enjoy highly difficult, abstract mathematics; who once played a rock show with a burning auto-harp strapped to his back; played bass for the punk rock band, Boris the Sprinkler; is an excellent cook; had a band about Ed Gein; and who knows what else. This is the sort of guy who becomes legendary, not just in a town, but in an entire region. I can't reveal his identity. The following links should give you a bit of an idea of what the Rhythm Chicken is all about: Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Lost At Sea (a zine), and Razorcake (where he is a columnist). My favorite quote is, "One man's bunny is another man's chicken."

What to do when running late to SFO during rush hour:
1) Place chicken hat on top of bass case in back seat.
2) Blast through carpool lane on Bay Bridge, appearing as if you have 3 people in the car.
3) Don't get caught.

So I went to Oregon with Col.K this weekend. Snow and tire chains and highway closings, oh my! But at least I got to hear their new songs, including one on Hiroshima and one about a future dystopia (Jonathan interrupts Kevin's patter: "Rock bands can't use three-syllable words like dystopic! This is a song about VERY BAD THINGS."), which I liked very much. I also took a brief walk while they did sound check and found an awesome book for my baby bro...which I will read thoroughly before giving to him. (speaking of holiday gifts, Amazon is branching out) In the van we discussed whether the Osama video is a fake, and talked about this great Rolling Stone piece about the media bias against Gore.

Kevin wants to come to Indy with Kurt this weekend (I finally heard his voice last night! He declares it to be "manly") and go to Broad Ripple Brew Pub with whoever's in town. Wanted to link to their website, but they don't seem to have one, nor any restaurant reviews. So here's a snip from a site: "Yorkshire, England, native John Hill built Broad Ripple Brew Pub in 1990, transforming an old auto parts store into a true English pub. It's cozy, with the bar on one side and Victorian dining on the other." I used to babysit for the Hills. And I'd totally forgotten that it was in the place of the old auto parts place. Apparently when I was little my dad took me there all the time. Showing off his daughter to the grizzled mechanics, I suppose. Anyway, I wonder how Broad Ripple has changed...I haven't been home in a year and a half. I know they closed Artzy Phartzy several months ago, my fave clothing store in high school (where else could I get funky indonesian purple creations to stand out from the Abercrappy & Fitch crowd?)...I guess Dinwiddie's is still there, but those clothes were a little too bizarre for me.

And here's this year's P.U.-Litzer prizes by media critic Norm Solomon.

I just noticed that my roommate took advantage of the fact that I am anything @ goddesscafe, and e-mailed me at "assasstittiestitties." In honor of that timeless song, of course.
