It's not what's with limericks lately...I always write limericks! And remember the awesome one I wrote in French while the boys were in Paris? (translation, since I didn't provide one at the time: "the boys who write songs / when hungry, cried "here, waiter! / all night we have sung / performed and played / now we need fish and chips!" Obviously, it sounds better in French) I was compelled to write one last night, seeing as xifer was seriously craving a hot dog with sauerkraut, and voila! I whipped out one of those postcards, with a photo of what he desired. He was duly impressed. Never let it be said that I don't come through for my friends.

I don't remember any drug-conversations last night! I didn't realize that you felt that way. Not that I'm a fan of the demon weed. You yourself got to see me, paranoid and ragingly pissed off with my sweatshirt over my head last fall, right? Yeah, that was the LAST time my smot-poking friends tried to use the line "But Laura, you're so high-strung, this will help!" Anyway...mmmm...drugs...(impatiently looks at clock and taps her foot) :p

Off to Portland tomorrow morning (their Sat night gig was cancelled, so we're leaving later) (is it weird to play a solar energy party in a city which seemingly gets no sun? What a weird place for Jonathan's dad to base his business, if you ask me)...I am practically orgasmic over the chance to see Powell's ("The City of Books"), a bookstore which is apparently four stories high and a city block wide!

Anyway, you may all pitch in and get me one of these for winter solstice.

It was good to see Kevin again last night, even if only for a couple of hours (and of course Laura too). We all wrote free postcards from the bar to my girlfriend's best friend in LA, even though neither Kevin nor Laura have ever even spoken to him. There were about fifteen postcards in all. Some had pictures of hot dogs on them. Laura wrote another limerick. (What's with the limericks lately?)

And to answer your question, Trish, no, we don't all. I don't ever again, as we discussed last night.

well, we're all sick of the media hype that surrounded the segway last week...but now there's the megway! Invented in SF, no less!

If only it were this easy...and, a link for the editors among us...

there once was a hottie named Trish
who, despite her avoidance of fish
(she's vegetarian,
says no to carrion)
Alura found her quite the dish

more great news... so that old toyota truck that we bought to move stuff out of my mom's house? blown head gasket. will never be driven again. FUCK!

i liked trish's poem, though. very ishtar. "it's kandahar to live so far."

my brother, rob, starred in the triangle club show in his senior year of college. the big finale was an all-male, drag, rockette-style kickline to a song called "baghdad." (this was in spring of '91.) wish i could remember the lyrics, but it was in a similar vein.

Laura Tora Bora,

Your love is a Daisy Cutter
Blasting the terrorist caves of my heart.
I’m infected with your germy charm
And the Cipro cabinet is bare.

It’s Kandahar to live so far,
Your face I so admire.
I’d need 300 volunteers
To stop this raging fire.

Yrs,
Trish

I think I know who's complaining. Dear sir, look at that list of names on top. Only FOUR of us are living in the Bay Area. We are a measly third, outnumbered. I can't get anyone else around here to join the blog. If you want Californicating news, post it! I myself have linked to two SF webcams recently, I'm trying.

I'm going out to dinner tonight in the Mission, with Tim, my fellow slave from a now dead dot-com. I had bellydancing class in Berkeley last night. Tomorrow night I am rescuing a Californian-cum-temporary Ohio resident from SFO. Is this post local enough for you? :p

i recently received a complaint that the blog was becoming too midwest-centric, so, here you go, western rangers:

this friday (12/14), from 6-9 at the north star cafe (corner of powell and green in sf), sgt. slap (aka arek whitmyer, seen here with hat and cane) is hosting a happy hour. you're all invited. he's a good host. $2 pints of full sail.

alura and i regret that we are unable to attend: we'll be scrunched up in the back of a van on friday night, hurtling at 70 mph toward portland.

In response to Kevin's blog from a while back about Jerry Garcia's death during our summer in New York, I have only this (very) mildly amusing anecdote to add: at the time, I was dating a Phish Phan girl with a sick dog at home. One night as we were walking down Avenue A, she suddenly exclaimed out of nowhere, "I can't believe that Jerry died!" I hadn't heard the news, so I quite naturally said "Who's Jerry? Is that your dog? Did your dog die?"

Personally, I wasn't really too upset about Jerry. But George Harrison's death last week hit my girlfriend rather hard and I felt it too.

nookie != kisses...although it can include them. I guess I should have also specified the Aries. No offense, all my b-day smooches were most pleasant.

In more serious news, did you guys hear fast track was passed by the House of Reps? It won by one vote. And I missed this Boondocks cartoon on Thanksgiving.

Was shopping for martini glasses online, and found some listed under "relationship enhancements." Relationship enhancements? That's a consumer category? Hmm, Kevin, I think our relationship would be quite enhanced if you bought me, um, a digital camera. Yeah!

Oooooooo... I'm blushing right here. right now. Anyway, Laura, I'm an Aries and I kissed you. Guess I don't count, huh? Well, maybe that ain't happening again, unless you ask real nice like.

no, stu, you da man. if my gay cousin has the hots for you, then... damn, boy.

speaking of seals, i stomached a bit of the seventh stream last night, as i'm naturally (narcissistically?) curious about any story involving seal-people (selkies). of course, i wish that we seals looked more like saffron burrows, but hey.

ivan record, erstwhile lead singer of the porno pimp dads, may or may not be engaged. the smart money is on "engaged, but not officially telling people yet." and guess what his (probable) fiancee emily's last name is? SELKIE. weird, huh? let's all hope that she refrains from tearing her skin off and jumping into lake monroe.

one of the mysterious occasional bloggers here posted on metafilter about a new McDonald's in Indy that has wood tables and bookshelves...with books locked behind glass. And I thought Indy had no culture.

Speaking of mysterious occasional bloggers, why is it that women love Stuart? Lesbian Becky is enamored of him, women hunt him down on craigslist...wow!

Anyway, this was the best b-day weekend ever. The only improvement would have been birthday nookie from an Aries. Instead, I got kisses from each of the 15 dinner party guests, as instructed by a package from Elissa which was opened after the banquet. She also got me what I can only consider the quintessential Elissa-gift, because it involved purple-ness, glitter, and sauciness. Looking forward to reading Mating, from Joel&Erica.

I first recommend NOT including your phone number and address. Yeah, I'm talking to you Alura!! Hey Kevin, good to hear from you. You da man.

kurt recommends that we all go rent the red violin. saw memento and monsters, inc. this weekend -- both good.

stuart, aka ming, updated his site.

btw, i'm trying to make an html resume -- right now, stuart and laura are two that i'm looking at for ideas. i'd love any feedback anyone can give.
