Nothin' says "Urban Warfare Chic" better than a stretch Humvee. Lemme tell ya, the ride's kinda bumpy, but when you've got it jammed full of friends, the stereo amp's been frobbed to 11 and you're heading toward downtown, you get *all* the attention.

OK, I guess they DO make them. (although that one is longer than the one I saw) (still, WTF?!?)
Speaking of wtf, I have to tell a story I heard, although I will not name names. Suffice to say it happened to a friend of a friend. Boy gets hit on by girl. Boy gets picked up by girl. Boy goes home with girl. In car, girl says things like "I hope my roommate doesn't think I'm a slut," indicating that yes, this most definitely is a sexual pick-up. Once at the house, girl sits on opposite end of couch from boy, leading him to ask "Would I be a rude houseguest if I kissed you?" at which point crestfallen girl says "Oh, I was hoping you'd be an asshole." Meaning, he was apparently too nice for her to sleep with.
WHY are people so FUCKED UP?!? This of course reinforced boy's longstanding belief that "girls go for assholes," which will now be even more difficult to combat, because hey, IT DOESN'T GET ANY CLEARER THAN THAT! Criminey.

Was just driving back from SF (dinner with the batty Becky Seal...ah, were she a Seal by blood and not just by name, I could attribute their obvious and plentiful mental problems to genetics...) ;) and saw a Ford Excursion LIMO. I mean, it was over twice the length of a regular urban assault vehicle, with tinted windows and those vertical lights between the windows like on regular limos. WTF?!? Don't know if someone made it that way (the thing around the license plate said "Royal Auto by Yousef") or if they would actually manufacture something that horrific, or what. Dot-com yuppie fantasy or urban thug rapper dream? You decide.

Reading an interesting book that Mark lent me, A General Theory of Love, which talks about the limbic system as it relates to how you learn to love as a child and who you love later on, how you'll seek out people that are attuned to your patterns, even if they're negative, and how it's hard to change them because they're so deep-seated in your limbic system. Describes how your mother, if she's attuned to you, regulates your system (from emotions to immune system function), and how people naturally seek out people and social situations where they feel attuned. A book to spawn lots of internal soul-searching and discussion with friends and lovers.
Speaking of a lack of attunement, if Sir Kelvmore continues to publicize his mission to "score" on the tour diary, while remaining out of contact with Agent Allumeuse, he might just NOT score in NYC this weekend. ;p
Also reading The Future of the Body: Explorations into the Further Evolution of Human Nature, which is creeping me out. Inexplicable mystical energies and connections between people...wonder if it all ties in with limbic system resonance.

a-ha! back in bloomington. my first night in indiana, alas, plagued by a bout of insomnia. i've been reading guns, germs, and steel for several hours (grazie mille, alura), but my eyes were starting to cross.
apologies if you saw the ray carlisle site already (the colonel's journals made mention); would that it had sound samples. i'll throw a listening party when i return in july -- if i could at all duplicate for you the surreal feeling of driving across nebraska listening to this deranged trucker making jokes about hauling chickens, i would. i'll try.
