I went to a small beach yesterday. The sand was perfect for sculpting. As I did not have the requisite buckets and shovel, I made a yoni with my hands instead.
(this is also a test posting, as blogger went down recently and there seem to be strange problems now that I need to figure out how to remedy)
Hilarity from my mom, daily astounded by her students' illiteracy:
(P.S. Do you think a condom wrapper should be used as a reference in an academic paper? Really... And I also had the Deceleration of Independence cited...)

Had a great city-living moment tonight. I was at rehearsal until 1:45, and Dave Fischoff, who's crashing on my couch for a few nights, had a gig in Cotati and got home around quarter to two as well. The corner where I live was swarming with police cars, but that's another story entirely, and a story of which I don't know the ending.
Both Dave and I were hungry, but all I had in the house was cereal and irish-coffee cake. (Thank you again, icing-queen.) Cereal, yes. Two kinds of cereal, even. No milk. So, we walked the five blocks down to the Black & White Liquor Store on Shattuck and Adeline, the only store open in Berkeley until 2am. The three Iranian guys who run the place were closing the door as we walked up, so a random hippie guy (buying beer) and I had to twist the main proprietor's proverbial arm to let us make our final purchases. Hippie guy's main line of coercion was, "Dude, DUDE, it'll come back to you if you're kind to us." Mine was: "I've got a five. I'll give you a five for a bottle of orange juice and one of those one-liter cartons. You'll make two bucks pure profit." My argument worked, and Cheerios consumption was imminent. I love this city.
Dave is off to play in Portland, Olympia, and Seattle next, but after that, it's the wild plains of Salt Lake City and Omaha. A scene like that would never happen in Nebraska, would it?
