Oh hey, thanks. I don't often get to Hyde Park. It feels very far away to me and it's not very easy to get to on public transit. But my impression is that people who live in Hyde Park are more often up here than vice versa, so give me a call next time you're in the environs of the "Near West Side" (Ukrainian Village, Wicker Park, Bucktown), or somewhere off of the Blue Line having a drink and I'll try to make it to wherever you are. OR, if you can give me a compelling reason to travel to Hyde Park, like say a party with lots of fascinating people, let me know.

Monsieur le Boot - I wanted to wish you a happy birthday. Hope it was a good one. Come down to Hyde Park some time, and I'll pour a few fingers for you.

I just want to go on record as being a person who is HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS of anyone who would like to live on metric time. Hell, the French already tried messing with the calendar, ten day weeks, etc. Didn't exactly go very far... There is a case for conserving some traditions, even if it's just momentum. Some of it's just charming.

Also, for friends of F. Jung: avoision. I believe this is just Kevin, but perhaps others will be interested. If nothing else, his blog can be used as a means of keeping tabs on some of us in Chicago.

from Cedar City, Utah, where my auntie Lissa lives (whom I visited last weekend):

can a student newspaper run a photo of a banana in a condom?
