Females now make up the majority of students studying journalism. Why not you? If you have a school paper, start writing about whatever interests you -- sports, local events, books, movies, anything. If you don't have a paper, talk to one of your teachers about starting one. As you have seen, many women have started their own papers and magazines with little outside help. Use your school's resources and make a successful paper. Start learning how to write well now, and you will be prepared to be an outstanding journalist when you grow up. Read a lot, and pay attention to things around you.

Most of all, be excited about what you're doing. If you decide you like writing, do it as often as you can - like playing basketball or the piano, you need to practice to become better. And who knows? You may just be the next Gloria Steinem or Ethel Payne, and use your writing to change things!
